The torch, an element of the overall design
scheme of the Games, was created by the
Barcelona born industrial designer, André Ricard,
who purposely chose a very different style.
The relay passed through 652 different places
over a total distance of nearly 6,000 km with
both runners and cyclists. The cauldron was
lit at Montjuic Olympic stadium by a flaming
arrow shot from the bow of Paralympic archer
Antonio Rebollo.
