Greek industrial designer Andreas Varotsos
used the shape of an olive leaf as inspiration
for this torch, which was shaped so that the
flame seemed to rise directly from the
torchbearer's hand.
This was the first Olympic torch to travel to
every continent, carrying the message of peace
for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. It is
made of wood from the olive tree and aluminium.
